A. Field archery ranges may only be established where there is sufficient space to follow the safety requirements set forth herein.

B. All field archery ranges must have an area clear of people, buildings or structures in an area the shape of a triangle. The angle opposite the base shall be the shooting position with the center of the base being the target location, and the base width calculated by multiplying the distance from the shooting position to the target by a factor of 1.1547. This area must be marked with flags or warning signs or fencing so as to prevent accidental entry into the area.

C. If any public place is behind an archery target within a distance that is one-half the distance from the shooting position to the target, there must be a backstop behind the target as wide as the base of the clear area and of sufficient size to prevent the accidental overflight of arrows and of sufficient material to preclude arrows from passing through the backstop.

D. No target or field archery range shall be situated on the top or crest of a hill.

E. All butts must be stable so that there is no possibility of tipping, including bracing or anchoring as necessary to preclude tipping.

F. It shall be unlawful to establish, or allow to be established, a field archery range without complying with all provisions of this chapter. Compliance shall be determined by a personal on-site inspection by the city manager or his designated agent prior to initial use. [Code 2000 § 6-7-2].
